The Hugoton Learning Academy has begun accepting student enrollment information for the 2011-2012 school year. Persons interested in our program are encouraged to stop by or call our office. We are more than willing to review past transcripts, give demonstrations on our program, and answer any questions you might have concerning our school.
Don't forget that the HLA also has a great Adult ESL program! Ms. Barb Trujillo coordinates the program, and offers two different daily sessions to accommodate our students individual needs. Session 1: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-Noon
Session 2: Monday-Friday, 5:00pm-8:00pm
Our Adult ESL program allows students to come to us who need additional help learning English, and obtaining credits towards their high school diploma. Students who are enrolled in this class receive one on one help from qualified ESL instructors, and are allowed to work on their own pace (given their educational experience and individual needs).
Here are some "Frequently Asked Questions" concerning Charter Schools and the HLA:
What is a Charter School?
A charter school is an independent public school that is designed to meet the students’ needs that have not been met by a traditional public school system. This can be a traditional aged student (18 years old and younger), or a non-traditional student (adult age).
When I graduate, will I receive a High School Diploma?
Yes! You will receive a Hugoton Learning Academy High School Diploma. The Hugoton Learning Academy is a state recognized school, so you will indeed receive a state recognized diploma!
How many credits do I need to graduate?
22 credits.
Does it matter where I live?
You need to live within the State of Kansas.
How much does it cost to enroll at the HLA?
Enrollment cost at the HLA is $30.00, as long as you enroll during the open enrollment period. (Open Enrollment period: April 15, 2011 - September 12, 2011.) We do continue to enroll students after our enrollment period closes, but the cost is $330. Make sure you enroll now!
How much time each day does this require?
One of the benefits of the Hugoton Learning Academy is its operational hours. We are open from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. Monday - Friday. Therefore, having these flexible hours means we can create individual time schedules for each student allowing them flexibility. While you may choose to study in the evening instead of the morning, you will still be expected to complete your work in a timely and consistent manner. You can also work from home!
How can I know that the education I receive from the HLA is of the highest quality?
Courses offered at the HLA are of the highest quality and use an approved curriculum by the USD 210 Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education. The Curriculum follows the Kansas State Standards for education. Highly qualified, Kansas certified instructors will be assisting the students' during each course.
