Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
What is a Charter School?
A charter school is an independent public school that is designed to meet the students’ needs that have not been met by a traditional public school system.
Does the HLA have a school theme like other charter schools?
Yes, our theme is Employability!
What is an Employability Curriculum?
This means we have implemented an Employability curriculum designed to expose students to a broader range of careers, to help guide the student into one specific career goal by the time he/she reaches the 9th grade. The student will be required to take the Career Pipeline assessment, but the topics will remain broad. The Vocational Coordinator will add into the required course schedule replacement courses to the student’s electives which would be their career interest electives and design an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for each student centered on both their education goal and their career goal.
Can I change my career path at anytime?
Yes, once a semester. During 9th – 12th grade, students will have to focus on one specific career cluster, based on their Career Pipeline assessment. The students have the ability to update or change their career cluster once a semester. The goal is to gradually give each student access and knowledge to his or her specific career of interest. Changing a career is expected as the student begins to learn more about each career.
Will this Employability class/curriculum prepare me for work as well as college?
Yes, The HLA employability curriculum will guide students and keep them on track of both their graduation requirements and employability curriculum, preparing them for either full-time employment and/or college post high school graduation.
