We are very excited,as we have already had our first graduate of 2012! Matthew Harrison, an 18 year old senior, earned his diploma and he is now entering the work force and looking forward to a bright future! This is the attraction of a virtual program; it is possible to finish early, the calendar does not have to be a factor. Congratulations and good luck to Matt!
Sometimes people ask us if we are a GED program or an alternative school. We are neither. We are a charter school. In Kansas, this simply means that we have a particular focus and ours is employability. Our students earn a regular high school diploma, which is equivalent to the diploma earned at any accredited high school in our state. To fulfill our charter, freshmen and sophomores must complete 2 years of employability classes. This is where they learn how to write a resume, do a job interview, determine what jobs are interesting to them, and other basic skills needed to get a good job and keep it.
In Kansas, a student must complete 21 credits to earn a state accredited diploma. The requirements are 4 English credits, 3 math credits, 3 social studies credits, 3 science credits, plus 8 electives. Here at the Learning Academy, we require 22 credits: the 13 specifically required by the state, one Computer Applications credit, 2 years of employability, and 6 electives. Our classes are online through e2020 (education 2020) and they all meet the standards of the state of Kansas. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 428-6374.
